About the area

The apartment is only minutes walk from the bustling village of Bowness, an attractive little town on the edge of Lake Windermere with a wide variety of interesting shops, pubs and restaurants, catering for all tastes and pockets. It even boasts its own cinema, showing a good range of the latest films. If you require help planning your days out in the Lake District, you can always visit the Tourist office on Glebe Road.

A little further afield in Windermere by the railway station is the excellent Booth’s supermarket, which has a good range of local produce. Almost next door, is the interesting Lakeland Plastics store, definitely worth a visit to look for the unusual kitchen gadget.

At the southern end of the lake is the Lakeside and Haverthwaite steam railway, linking to the steamers that sail from Lakeside. Steamers also run from Bowness to Ambleside and Lakeside. There is a steamboat museum located just outside of Bowness.

Across the lake at Sawrey is Hill Top farm, Beatrice Potter’s home and now owned by the National Trust. Not far away is Grizedale Forest with its fascinating sculpture trail.

The beautifully restored Arts and Craft house Blackwell is only a few minutes drive away and for that wet afternoon why not visit the Abbot Hall art gallery in the middle of Kendal next to the Museum of Lakeland Life.
